Penguin travels

We penguins have always kept busy when travelling but now I have stats!! Bill's fit bit tells us we walked 14,804 steps today and climbed the equivalent of 25 floors!
The crazy thing is we are actually taking our time - not leaving early and planning one or two things a day. Public transport has a lot to do with it. First there is a walk to and from tube stations wherever you are going. Some short, some loooong. And virtually all underground stations have stairs up and down as well as between. Then we crossed four bridges today which meant climbing stairs to get to them. Then we spent a few hours in the museum. It all adds up!

Today's agenda was get off at Westminster Station (Big Ben was looming above us), cross the bridge, wander the South Bank until the next bridge, cross it, walk the north bank to the next, cross back, etc. Once we had had enough, we found a tube station and made our second trip to the London Museum. We've only discovered this museum this trip and really like it - history of London from first inhabitants to present. The displays are creative and beautiful with subtle use of technology to enhance the experience. Last week we spent time in Roman (Londinium) and Medieval London. This week in prehistoric and modern London. We stayed until the bells rang.

First thing we saw as we came out of Westminster Station

Westminster Bridge solid with tourists. With the barriers, no one seems worried about crossing (Us included).

South Bank and crowds around the Eye

Golden Jubilee Bridge (attached to older Hungerford Bridge used for trains). The crowd had thinned out. We crossed over to the North Bank which was very quiet.

Waterloo - back to South Bank
Blackfriers Bridge - over to the north bank and the Blackfriers Station for lift to Museum. The scene shows the contrast of traditional (St Paul's) and modern.
